Bangladesh: BNP Chief Khaleda Zia To Contest Upcoming Election, Say Reports | Spotlight | N18GBangladesh’s former Prime Minister Khaleda Zia is reportedly set to contest the upcoming general elections. The announcement was made by Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) vice-chairman Abdul Awal Mintoo. He said that the 79-year-old party chief is doing well and will contest from the south-eastern city of Feni. The announcement followed Zia’s return to Dhaka in May. She was in London since January for advanced medical care. Zia has long suffered from multiple illnesses, including liver cirrhosis, kidney disease, heart problems, diabetes, and arthritis. Even during her prison term in a graft case, the former prime minister sought bail on medical grounds. Amid concerns over her old age and health issues, will Zia be able to sweep the electoral race?
