Super John Williamson Scores 24 Points in Win Over Lakers (1978)

January 8, 1978 - One of the best players of the late '70s and early '80s to have never been named an all-star, John Williamson was a unit of a shooting guard who never met a shot he didn't like. Williamson was actually traded to New Jersey about two weeks after this game took place and he went full scorched earth on the NBA for the remainder of the year, averaging close to 30 points per game while shooting all the shots (26 attempts a night).

Williamson's NBA career came to a premature conclusion before he even reached the age of 30 on the heels of injuries, weight problems, and contract squabbles. He retired as the Nets all-time leading scorer, passing Julius Erving during his final year with the team. As of 2026, Williamson remains sixth on the Nets' all-time scoring list, behind Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson, Vince Carter, Buck Williams, and Brooke Lopez.
