Bangladesh and the Mecca Pact explained: Bangladesh has indicated that it would positively consider joining the Mecca Joint Defence Agreement if Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan formally invite Dhaka. The Mecca Pact, signed on August 7, 2026, establishes a mutual-defence framework between Saudi Arabia, Türkiye and Pakistan, with an attack on one member treated as an attack on all.
In this video, we explain what the Mecca Pact is, why Bangladesh is considering it, what Bangladesh could gain from joining the defence framework, and how its possible expansion could reshape South Asian and Middle Eastern geopolitics.
