Most people building an audience are chasing the wrong number.

They want ten thousand followers, or a hundred thousand, or whatever figure they've decided counts as real. John Lee's argument is that you need two hundred people. Two hundred who want what you do, and will pay a hundred pounds for it.

That's fifty a week. Which is a completely different problem to solve, and a much smaller one.

The reason most people never get there isn't talent. It's that nobody knows they exist. His line for it, and he makes the room repeat it, is that the best known beats the best. Not the most skilled. Not the most deserving. The one people have heard of.

So the second half of this talk is about the mechanics of being known, and the most useful part takes sixty seconds a day.

He calls it riffing. Most people try to record a video in one take, fluff it, and delete it. Instead: record the hook, stop. Record the point, stop. Record the call to action, stop. Stitch them together. Nobody needs to be a one-take wonder, and the barrier to posting daily collapses once you stop trying to be.

There's also a detail near the end about a video of his that underperformed. He trimmed one second off the front and reposted it. Fifteen times the views, same content.

Recorded live at Mindvalley University 2026.
