Hubungan antara Iran dan Amerika Serikat mengalami pasang surut yang tajam sejak pertengahan abad ke-20. Negara penerus Kekaisaran Persia ini kemudian berubah menjadi negara teokratis anti-Barat, dan hubungan dengan Amerika memburuk tajam, terutama setelah krisis penyanderaan di Kedutaan Besar AS di Teheran. Sejak saat itu, Amerika menjatuhkan berbagai sanksi terhadap Iran.
Ketegangan meningkat dalam beberapa dekade berikutnya, terutama terkait program nuklir Iran. Amerika khawatir Iran sedang mengembangkan senjata nuklir, sementara Iran bersikeras bahwa programnya untuk tujuan damai.
Hingga kini, hubungan kedua negara tetap tegang. Isu nuklir, pengaruh Iran di Timur Tengah, dan sanksi ekonomi menjadi sumber utama konflik. Namun, harapan dialog tetap terbuka, terutama melalui diplomasi multilateral.
