La tradizionale inaugurazione del Presepe e l’accensione dell’illuminazione dell’albero di Natale in Piazza San Pietro quest’anno ha avuto un elemento di novità. A presiedere l’evento è stata Sr. Raffaella Petrini, presidente del Governatorato dello Stato della Città del Vaticano. Alla cerimonia erano presenti anche l’arcivescovo Emilio Nappa e l’avvocato Giuseppe Puglisi-Alibrandi, Segretari generali del Governatorato. È la prima volta, nella lunga storia di queste inaugurazioni a San Pietro, che a guidare il rito sia una presidente donna. Una possibilità legata a una delle ultime volontà di papa Francesco, con l’ammissione poi sanata sul piano giuridico e confermata di recente da Leone con un motu proprio.
