MSF raises concern as fuel shortage limits Gaza's water distribution to one-eighth

Christopher Lockyear, the secretary general of Doctors Without Borders (MSF), has stated that the number of aid trucks entering Gaza has decreased since October 7. This reduction has been exacerbated by the Israeli closure of Rafah Crossing since May 7. Lockyear emphasised that providing aid involves more than simply bringing trucks into Gaza. He explained, “Humanitarian assistance is a complex ecosystem of activities that need to be legitimised throughout the entire chain.” He highlighted the importance of ensuring the safety of humanitarian workers and the distribution of supplies. Lockyear reported that 900,000 people have been displaced since Israel launched a ground offensive in Rafah earlier this month. He expressed concerns over the increasing complexity in Gaza, particularly regarding water supply shortages. He noted that Médecins Sans Frontières distributed 400,000 litres of water last week, but this week they were only able to distribute 50,000 litres, which is one-eighth of their usual capacity due to fuel shortages.
