'South Africa Must Boost Ties With Global North & South', Says ANC's Mahlengi Bhengu | Firstpost PoV
In an exclusive interview with Firstpost, African National Congress (ANC) National Spokesperson Mahlengi Bhengu-Motsiri addresses key strategies and internal preparations as South Africa heads into the local government elections. Following a major Constitutional Court victory that reinstated 181 candidates to the ballot, Bhengu-Motsiri defends the judiciary’s integrity against criticisms from the Democratic Alliance (DA). She emphasises the party's community-driven candidate selection process, outlines ongoing anti-corruption initiatives—including investigations into municipal governance—and highlights service delivery achievements in water and electricity infrastructure. Addressing broader political dynamics, Bhengu-Motsiri details growing friction with the DA over transformation policies and land legislation, clarifying that the ANC’s involvement in the Government of National Unity (GNU) remains subject to review if it fails to serve the public interest.
