NUKLEARE WENDE: Britischer Atomschirm für Deutschland: Ein Ende der US-Abhängigkeit?Deutschland erwägt offenbar eine finanzielle Beteiligung am britischen Nuklearschirm. Nach einem Bericht des Telegraph führt Berlin Gespräche mit London und Paris über eine engere Einbindung in die bestehenden europäischen Atomstreitkräfte. Eigene deutsche Atomwaffen sollen demnach ausdrücklich nicht angestrebt werden.
Hintergrund sind wachsende Zweifel daran, wie dauerhaft die USA ihre militärische Präsenz und nukleare Abschreckung in Europa aufrechterhalten werden. Großbritannien verfügt mit seinem Trident-System auf U-Booten über eine eigene strategische Nuklearstreitmacht. Deutschland könnte sich finanziell beteiligen, um den europäischen Abschreckungsschirm zu stärken.
