It’s time for an Audi RS5 head-to-head!
We’ve brought the three generations of RS5 together, and we’re going to see just how this high-powered RS has evolved over the years.
The new RS5 is the first to come with hybrid technology - but will it prove to be a disadvantage? Let’s take a closer look at the stats…
The first RS5 was released in 2010, and it’s powered by a 4.2-litre naturally aspirated V8. This produces 450hp and 430Nm, with this power sent to all four wheels via a 7-speed automatic gearbox. It tips the scales at 1,725kg, and as of today, it’s worth around £20,000.
The second-generation RS5 was first unveiled in 2017. It swapped the V8 for a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6, and this produces 450hp and 600Nm. This power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed gearbox, and it’s the lightest of the three cars here, at 1,695kg. As of 2026, it’s worth around £70,000.
Then we come to the all-new RS5. As with the second generation, it comes with a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6. However, this is accompanied by an electric motor, and they combine to create 639hp and 825Nm! This power is sent to all four wheels via an 8-speed auto gearbox, and it’s by far the heaviest car here, at 2,355kg! Given it’s brand new, it has a cost of around £97,000.
So has the RS5 gone backwards with the inclusion of hybrid tech? Or will it easily roll past its predecessors? There’s only one way to find out for sure… LET’S RACE!
