Magyarországon a lakosság döntő többsége, 92 százaléka saját tulajdonú házban él, ami alapvetően meghatározza, hogyan nyúljon hozzá az állam a lakhatással kapcsolatos kérdésekhez. A lakhatási válság kezelésére nem feltétlenül kellene ezermilliárdokat költeni, pusztán már a szabályozások változtatásával látványos eredményeket lehetne elérni középtávon is – az egyik ilyen terület a vadnyugati állapotban lévő magánbérleti szektor szabályozása lehetne.
