Community & Individuality: Life with Both | Nate Guevin | TEDxBeaverCountryDaySchool
Nate Guevin (they/them) explores the intersections of identity, individuality, and community—and the roles each has played in shaping their life. They reflect on discovering their identity, the support found in community during times of need, and the tension that can arise when these values conflict. Through honest reflection, NG invites us to consider how identity and community can challenge each other—and ultimately lift each other up. Nate Guevin (they/them) is a non-binary creative, teacher, and cat parent, who is currently in their seventh year teaching design to the middle school population at Beaver Country Day School. In their spare time, NG spends time with their spouse, Mira, and their two cats, Dumpling and Egg. They are also an avid skateboarder and fingerboarder, creating their own miniature skateboards to use with their hands. They started learning digital design with focus in laser cutting and 3D printing in their sophomore year at Bennington College, which they continue to learn in an attempt to hone their craft. They are passionate about social justice, technology, and communal design. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community.
