In this timely talk, Dr. Emily Battaglia examines the growing youth vaping crisis and its wide-ranging impacts on adolescent health. Drawing on clinical experience and research, she unpacks the physical, mental, and social consequences of e-cigarette use, from respiratory harm to increased rates of sadness, cyberbullying, substance use, and other high-risk behaviors. Battaglia makes the case that early identification and timely intervention are essential to protecting young people and supporting healthier outcomes.
With more than one million American adolescents reporting e-cigarette use, Battaglia challenges common misconceptions surrounding vaping and emphasizes the urgent need for evidence-based screening, prevention, and cessation strategies. Her work highlights how vaping does not occur in isolation, but is often intertwined with broader mental health and social challenges that can further impede adolescent well-being.
