NRW: Panzer, Polizei und Piloten kämpfen gegen das Feuer in der Eifel – Wüst bricht Urlaub ab!Im Hürtgenwald in der Eifel kämpfen rund 1400 Helfer gegen den größten Waldbrand, den Nordrhein-Westfalen bislang erlebt hat. Etwa 300 Hektar Wald sind betroffen.
Das Feuer breitete sich in der Nacht nicht weiter aus. Große Sorge bereitet aber der Wind. Löschhubschrauber von Bundeswehr, Bundespolizei und Landespolizei werfen Wasser ab. Auch Wasserwerfer und Bergepanzer sind im Einsatz.
Rund 2000 Menschen aus dem Ortsteil Gai mussten ihre Häuser verlassen. Das Feuer war bis auf 100 Meter an die Gebäude herangerückt.
Die Feuerwehr löscht weiter Glutnester. Munitionsreste aus dem Zweiten Weltkrieg erschweren die Arbeiten und gefährden die Einsatzkräfte.
Die Feuerwehr stellt sich auf einen tagelangen Einsatz über das Wochenende hinaus ein. Ministerpräsident Hendrik Wüst hat seinen Urlaub abgebrochen und will sich selbst ein Bild von der Lage machen.
