Iran warns US is 'directly responsible' for Israeli ceasefire violations as mistrust grows
Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baghaei warned on Monday during a press briefing in Tehran that the United States is "directly responsible" for Israeli violations of the ceasefire, saying that any escalation in the region will be attributed to Washington because it is party to the negotiations. Baghaei said that recent Israeli strikes on Lebanon and the interception of vessels will increase "mistrust" and have a "direct bearing" on ongoing talks between Iran and the US. "These developments will no doubt have a bearing on the negotiations. Simply, they will increase the level of mistrust. We have already been doubting the intentions of the United States," he said.Baghaei rejected the notion that Israeli actions could be viewed separately from American policy, stating: "The actions of the Zionist entity within the region cannot be looked at in isolation from the United States." He accused the US of making "unstable diplomacy" and "empty statements" about ceasefire commitments while violations continue. Iran, he said, has "channels of response, be it through the armed forces or diplomatic channels," and is prepared to take "whatever action in order to safeguard our national interest... without hesitation."
The spokesperson reiterated that a ceasefire on "all fronts" — including Lebanon and Gaza — is integral to any agreement. "The goal of the ongoing negotiations is to have a ceasefire on all fronts. We cannot allow the Zionist entity or the United States to undermine this part of the deal," he said. Regarding reports of Egypt deploying air defence systems to the UAE and issuing statements against Iran, Baghaei advised regional countries not to allow their soil to be used for aggression against Iran, warning that they should not "fall deliberately or non-deliberately within the circles of the enemies."
