President Donald Trump holds a Cabinet meeting after announcing Israel and Hamas have 'signed off' on the first phase of the Gaza peace plan.Trump was joined by Vice President JD Vance, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, and the rest of his administration.
Trump said Wednesday that Israel and Hamas have agreed to the "first phase" of his peace plan, which includes a pause in fighting and the release of some hostages and prisoners.
"This means that ALL of the Hostages will be released very soon, and Israel will withdraw their Troops to an agreed upon line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace," Trump wrote on Truth Social. "All Parties will be treated fairly!"
Netanyahu said he would convene the government on Thursday in order to approve the deal.
Meanwhile, the ongoing federal government shutdown continues into the ninth day. About 750,000 federal employees have been furloughed since the shutdown began a week ago. Others in essential roles are still reporting to work. But unless Congress reaches an agreement before Oct. 15, they’ll all miss their next paychecks. The White House estimates the shutdown is costing the U.S. economy $15 billion each week.
