Full commentary playthrough of the Gothic 1 Remake, from a Gothic fan. Gothic is an open-world action-adventure RPG that was originally made by the small German developer Piranha Bytes in 2001; the remake just released in June 2026 and was developed by the Spanish developer Alkimia Interactive under publisher THQ Nordic. By all appearances, this remake seems to be sticking pretty close to the original game, but with lots of modernized updates and tons of new features and content. Only time will tell if the game itself is actually any good, however. I'm hopeful that it will stay true to the spirit of the original game, but at the same time I'm skeptical of how well a modern game can recapture the lightning-in-a-bottle, 25 years later.

The playthrough is currently available for exclusive early viewing to all channel Members/Patrons at the "Regular Viewer" level and above. New public release date: 4pm UTC on Wednesday, June 10th.
