El nuevo presidente de Colombia Abelardo De la Espriella sorprendió sonriendo y lanzando besos como un cantante de vallenato que sale al escenario. Esta actitud fue calificada como una burla, provocando que su propio vicepresidente tuviera que llamarle la atención en vivo para que adoptara una postura solemne. Su cara alegre contrastaba con lo que Colombia pasa en estos momentos.“Colombia rechaza el apoyo de rescatistas internacionales”, publica el diario español El País.
La Cancillería ya rectificó y empezó a dar la bienvenida a varios grupos internacionales. Lo bueno de De la Espriella es que ya empezó a liderar en el terreno. Ya prometió subsidios de arriendo temporales para todas las familias que perdieron sus hogares. Además ofreció un alivio económico por tres meses en el cobro de servicios públicos esenciales y ya avanza un proyecto para la construcción de nuevas casas llamado Fondo Milagro, donde la gente podrá donar para la reconstrucción.
En una de sus primeras intervenciones públicas, De la Espriella afirmó: "De entrada encomiendo nuestro país al señor Jesucristo para que nos ayude a salir de esta".
