Langkah ini menyusul keputusan tiga Eropa sebelumnya yakni Norwegia, Spanyol, dan Irlandia.
Pengakuan Slovenia atas Palestina ini disampaikan oleh Perdana Menteri Robert Golob pada Kamis (30/5/2024) di Lubbljana.
Meski demikian, keputusan pemerintah tersebut masih memerlukan persetujuan parlemen negara anggota Uni Eropa.
Rencananya akan dilakukan pemungutan suara mengenai mosi tersebut pada Selasa pekan depan.
Golob juga menyerukan untuk penghentian permusuhan antara Israel dengan Hamas di Gaza serta pembebasan seluruh sandera.
Selanjutnya, Pemerintah Slovenia mengibarkan bendera Palestina di samping negaranya di depan gedung pusat kota Ljubljana.
Terkait dengan langkah Slovenia, Menteri Luar Negeri Israel, Israel Katz berharap agar anggota parlemen Slovenia menolaknya.
Melalui akun X, Katz menilai pengakuan terhadap Palestina akan merusak hubungan Slovenia dengan Israel.
