Coriolano, héroe de Roma, vio cómo su patriotismo se volvió odio tras ser exiliado por despreciar a la plebe. En busca de venganza, se alió con los volscos, enemigos de Roma, y marchó contra su propia patria, arrasando sus defensas. A las puertas de la ciudad, ignoró las súplicas oficiales, pero cedió ante su madre y su esposa, que apelaron al honor familiar. Al retirarse y perdonar la ciudad, traicionó a sus nuevos aliados. Sin patria y sin perdón, fue ejecutado por los volscos. Coriolano murió víctima de un orgullo tan grande que lo llevó a poner su ego por encima de su vida.
