La Odisea: la historia de Ulises y el regreso a Ítaca
Ulises, rey de Ítaca, regresa a casa tras diez años de guerra en Troya. Su viaje de regreso, narrado por Homero, se convierte en una épica iniciática de diez años más, llena de monstruos, dioses y pruebas que ponen a prueba su identidad y su deseo de volver. Tras saquear Ismaro, una tormenta lo desvía al país de los lotófagos, donde la flor del olvido casi borra la memoria de sus hombres. En la isla de los Cíclopes, engaña y ciega a Polifemo, hijo de Poseidón, quien maldice su regreso. Los vientos de Eolo lo acercan a Ítaca, pero la tripulación abre el odre y una tempestad los devuelve al mar. Los lestrigones devoran casi toda la flota. En Eea, Circe transforma a sus compañeros en cerdos; Ulises, protegido por la planta moly de Hermes, la obliga a devolverles la forma humana y pasa un año con ella. Circe le ordena bajar al Hades, donde Tiresias le revela su destino y encuentra el fantasma de su madre y de Aquiles. Supera a las sirenas atado al mástil, elige perder seis hombres ante Escila en lugar de todos en Caribdis, y sus hombres comen las vacas sagradas de Helios, provocando la destrucción del barco por Zeus. Solo Ulises sobrevive y pasa siete años con Calipso, que le ofrece inmortalidad; él la rechaza por volver a casa. Los feacios lo devuelven a Ítaca. Disfrazado de mendigo por Atenea, se reúne con Telémaco, elimina a los pretendientes que asedian a Penélope y prueba su identidad con la prueba del lecho nupcial tallado en un olivo vivo. La Odisea no es solo una aventura: es el relato del hombre que, frente al olvido, la tentación y el dolor, elige el hogar, la mortalidad y la memoria como verdadero triunfo.
