Non capita spesso di vedere una storia così intrisa di destino come quella che lega Max Jacobs e Gianmarco Tamberi, protagonisti di un doppio epilogo a Tokyo, a distanza di soli 47 minuti l’uno dall’altro, durante le qualificazioni ai Campionati Mondiali.
Il legame tra i due affonda le radici nello stesso stadio di Tokyo, teatro quattro anni fa di un momento storico per lo sport italiano. Era il 1° agosto 2021, quando Jacobs vinse l’oro nei 100 metri, mentre Tamberi conquistava la medaglia d’oro nel salto in alto, in due emozionanti gare separate da appena 20 minuti. Oggi, però, la situazione è cambiata. Max Jacobs, a 30 anni, ha dovuto fare i conti con una stagione segnata dagli infortuni e si è fermato al 6° posto in semifinale. Tamberi, campione del mondo in carica e 33enne, ha passato anch’egli una stagione complicata dagli acciacchi, ma con una reazione differente, decisa e combattiva. Nonostante la qualificazione ottenuta grazie a una wild card, Tamberi non è riuscito a superare la misura di 2,21 metri nelle qualificazioni, motivo di un risultato deludente, ma con la volontà ferrea di ripartire e puntare ai Giochi di Los Angeles 2028.
