Eine Sturzflut aus Wasser und Geröll kostete in Nepal vor einem Monat mehr als 1.400 Menschen das Leben. Die Katastrophe ist für die meisten vor Ort noch nicht vorbei. Tausende haben ihre Lebensgrundlage verloren, hausen in provisorischen Unterkünften. Landesweit müssen rund 20.000 Häuser wieder aufgebaut werden. Die Regierung rechnet mit Kosten von bis zu 5 Milliarden Dollar und bittet um internationale Unterstützung.

Während im Katastrophengebiet noch geräumt wird, beginnt in Nepal die wichtigste Tourismus-Saison. Die Regierung bittet ausdrücklich darum, Reisen nicht abzusagen. Die meisten Ziele und Trekkingrouten seien geöffnet.
