Le nuove tariffe doganali e il ripristino delle frontiere avrebbero aumentato i costi per le imprese e l'inflazione del Regno Unito e il carico fiscale sarebbe cresciuto e il potere d'acquisto sarebbe calato di quasi 2.000 sterline all'anno.
