What’s New in Linux Mint 22.3 Zena – Cinnamon 6.6, New Tools & Key Improvements

In this video, I take a detailed look at what’s new in Linux Mint 22.3 Zena, the latest point release in the Linux Mint 22 series. This release continues to build on the stable Ubuntu 24.04 LTS base while focusing on refinement, usability, and practical desktop improvements.

Linux Mint 22.3 ships with Cinnamon 6.6, bringing visual polish and workflow enhancements across the desktop. The application menu has been refreshed with support for symbolic category icons, improved organization, and better handling of Places and Bookmarks. These changes make everyday navigation feel cleaner and more consistent.

This release also introduces new system utilities, including a System Information tool for viewing hardware and software details in one place, and a System Administration tool that groups commonly used system tasks into a single interface. These additions make system management easier, especially for users who prefer graphical tools.

File management gets a welcome upgrade as well. The Nemo file manager now allows you to pause file copy and move operations, and the Timeshift backup tool also supports pausing snapshots. These features give you more control during heavy disk activity and improve multitasking on busy systems.

Linux Mint 22.3 includes improvements to notifications, panel indicators, and Night Light behavior, along with expanded Warpinator functionality that allows sending text messages in addition to files. Cinnamon settings now also offer better support for Thunderbolt devices, improving hardware management on modern systems.

This is not a disruptive release. Linux Mint 22.3 Zena focuses on stability, polish, and small quality-of-life improvements that make the desktop feel more refined without changing how you work.

If you’re already using Linux Mint 22.1 or 22.2, upgrading to 22.3 is a smooth and logical step that keeps your files, apps, and settings intact while delivering a better overall experience.
