Budi Gunadi mengungkapkan bahwa masa awal jabatannya lebih banyak dihabiskan untuk menangani pandemi Covid-19 dibanding mengurusi sistem kesehatan nasional.
"Jadi, pada saat kita sudah beresin Covid, saya masuk tuh 23 Desember 2020 sampai sekitar Juni 2022, memang tugasnya bukan Menteri Kesehatan, Menteri Covid waktu itu,” ujar Budi Gunadi saat peluncuran Program Akselerasi Pemenuhan dan Distribusi Dokter dan Dokter Spesialis melalui Sistem Kesehatan Akademik di Gedung Kemendiktisaintek, Jakarta, Selasa (22/7/2025).
Selama 1,5 tahun masa pandemi, Budi Gunadi mengaku lebih banyak mengurusi vaksinasi, logistik, dan distribusi obat-obatan.
