Discover everything about vitamin A and its function in the body here: https://drbrg.co/4gW4lAV
Vitamin A is essential for healthy skin, eyes, and mucous membranes. It helps maintain the protective barriers throughout your body, including the mucus layer of the eye and the lipid layer that protects your skin.
Vitamin A deficiency can lead to dry, rough skin and changes in the eyes. You may even develop rough, bumpy skin or corns on your feet.
Many people mistake beta-carotene for vitamin A, but these two compounds are not the same. Retinol is the active form of vitamin A, while beta-carotene is the precursor, and most of it does not convert into the active form.
You need adequate bile and gallbladder function for vitamin A to work. Bile helps extract fat-soluble vitamins from the food you eat. If you've had your gallbladder removed, or have a bile deficiency or a fatty liver, it could be the reason you’re deficient in vitamin A.
Focus on increasing foods high in vitamin A rather than taking a supplement if you’re deficient.
