Recentemente, infatti, il tema della competitività europea è stato affrontato in un discorso da parte della pessima Presidente della Commissione von der Leyen, ma solo dopo aver parlato di questioni geopolitiche come se fosse un argomento di minore importanza. Ormai l'incapacità dell'Europa deriva proprio da mancati investimenti in tecnologie critiche, secondo i fautori della tecnocrazia: cioè vorrebbero lo sviluppo di un'intelligenza artificiale europea.
Segnalano che l'America di Trump starebbe giocando una partita cruciale di dominanza mondiale proprio sullo sviluppo delle tecnologie critiche future, cercando di contrastare la forte ascesa del modello di sviluppo cinese. Noi sappiamo che il modello di innovazione americano è rappresentato dalla Silicon Valley, che si rigenera completamente grazie alla presenza di università, di venture capital, cioè di finanziatori che portano capitali, la sua capacità di attrarre talenti e denaro da tutto il mondo. Mentre il modello cinese si sta distinguendo per un approccio ingegneristico orientato al risultato, per velocità di costruzione e adozione di nuove tecnologie. E in questo quadro l'Europa non avrebbe un modello.
