"Hier waren wir auf dem Dach des Empire State Buildings in New York", erzählt Jutta Umsonst und vergrößert das Foto auf ihrem Tablet. Es zeigt ihren Mann Ulf und sie, Arm in Arm vor Hochhauskulisse und blauem Himmel. Das Bild entstand im Urlaub im vergangenen Jahr. Seitdem hat sich für das Ehepaar aus Jugenheim in Rheinland-Pfalz vieles verändert: Der 71 Jahre alte Ulf wurde zum Pflegefall, die 66-jährige Jutta zur Vollzeitpflegerin. Während der Osterfeiertage ist Ulf Umsonst plötzlich im Bad zusammengebrochen. Nach vielen Untersuchungen im Krankenhaus steht die Diagnose fest: Er leidet an Nierenkrebs mit Metastasen im Kopf. Nach zwei Operationen und langen Krankenhausaufenthalten kommt er als Pflegefall nach Hause - eine einschneidende Veränderung. "Für uns war einfach schlimm: donnerstags noch 80 Kilometer Fahrrad gefahren und samstags eigentlich todkrank", erinnert sich seine Frau zurück.
