"Il fucile è stato identificato come un Mauser modello 98, calibro 3006. Il fucile aveva un mirino montato sulla parte superiore.
Gli investigatori hanno notato delle iscrizioni incise sui bossoli rinvenuti insieme al fucile.
Le iscrizioni sui tre bossoli non sparati recitano: “Ehi fascista!”, "Prendi!"
Il simbolo di una freccia in su, una freccia a destra e tre frecce in giù.
Un secondo bossolo non sparato recitava: "Oh Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao Ciao", e un terzo
bossolo non sparato, "Se leggi questo, sei gay, LMAO'".
L'assassino di Charlie Kirk è stato identificato, così come il movente. Si tratta del 22enne Tyler Robinson, convinto dal padre a costituirsi. Il governatore dello Utah Spencer Cox ha dichiarato ai giornalisti che "un familiare di Tyler Robinson ha contattato un amico di famiglia che ha contattato l'ufficio dello sceriffo della contea di Washington con l'informazione che Robinson aveva confessato loro".
In effetti il video di sorveglianza mostra il sospettato arrivare al campus universitario a bordo di una Dodge Challenger grigia alle 08:29 ora locale della mattina della sparatoria. Cox ha affermato che gli investigatori hanno interrogato un membro della famiglia, il quale ha affermato che negli ultimi anni il sospettato era diventato più impegnato politicamente.
L'interrogato ha perfino ribadito che, secondo lui, Kirk diffondeva odio; un secondo interrogatorio al coinquilino avrebbe poi definitivamente dissipato i dubbi.
Robinson avrebbe scritto al coinquilino su Discord di un fucile da reperire e lasciare all'interno di un cespuglio. "Si tratta di un Mauser modello 98", col quale qualche ora dopo ha freddato Kirk. Il movente ideologico è confermato dalle incisioni rinvenute sui proiettili non sparati. Robinson ha inciso sui bossoli frasi come "Hey fascista!", "Prendi!", e perfino il ritornello di Bella Ciao.
