India Rajastan nevű tartománya a világ első számú 'kőfurnér" központja.
Egyrészt itt adott a megfelelő mennyiségű és minőségű kő - elsősorban palát és márványt használnak - illetve itt adott a gyártási tapasztalat és a technológia is.
Első körben a bányában hatalmas kőtömböket vágnak le, majd már az üzemben ezeket a kőtömböket szeletelik fel 30 centis darabokra. Indulhat a kőfurnér gyártás. A pala kőzet felületét először lánggal megmelegítik, ezáltal kinyílnak a pórusok, majd a felületet megcsiszolják. Ezután jön a lényeg. Két réteg műgyanta és két réteg üvegszál, ezek révén válik majd le a kő felső rétege. Miután elkészült a kb 2 mm-es réteg, már csak lényegében méretre kell vágni.
A márvány kőfurnér gyártása egy picit bonyolultabb. Itt a kő felületet először homokszóróval megdolgozzák, bevizezik, majd jön itt is a két réteg műgyanta és az üvegszál, innen a folyamat ugyanaz.
A kőfurnért elsősorban az építőipar használja: akár homlokzatra burkolóelemeként, akár belső térben design elemként.
