Pengiriman sempat tertunda karena ada kekhawatiran bom lebih dari 907 kg dalam pengiriman yang sama akan digunakan di daerah padat penduduk.
Informasi itu diungkap seorang pejabat AS hari Kamis (11/7/2024).
AS menunda pengiriman bom pada awal Mei ketika Israel berada di ambang operasi darat besar-besaran di Rafah, Gaza selatan.
Operasi itu ditentang keras pemerintah AS.
Israel akhirnya tetap melancarkan serangan tetapi lebih terbatas.
“Sikap kami jelas bahwa kami khawatir bom seberat 2.000 pon tersebut pada akhirnya akan digunakan, khususnya menjelang kampanye Israel terhadap Rafah yang telah mereka umumkan akan mereka lakukan,” kata pejabat AS yang tidak mau disebutkan namanya.
“Karena bom-bom ini dikirim bersamaan, bom-bom lain kadang-kadang bisa bercampur. Itulah yang terjadi di sini dengan bom seberat 500 pon,” kata pejabat itu. Ia menambahkan bahwa “Kekhawatiran mereka bukan pada bom seberat 500 pon karena bom-bom itu disetujui sebagai bagian dari proses yang biasa."
