Seperti diketahui, penyelenggaraan ibadah haji tahun ini diwarnai pengalihan slot time penerbangan untuk 46 kelompok terbang (kloter) jemaah Indonesia pada gelombang 1 pemulangan.
Sebanyak lebih kurang 18.000 jemaah yang berangkat pada gelombang pertama (mendarat di Madinah), semestinya pulang melalui Jeddah.
Namun, karena maskapai gagal mendapatkan slot time di Bandara Jeddah, jemaah harus pulang melalui Madinah. Dampak dari pengalihan penerbangan ini membuat waktu jemaah menjadi lebih lama dan berpotensi kelelahan.
Direktur Layanan Haji dalam Negeri Kementerian Agama Saiful Mujab menyatakan maskapai Garuda Indonesia tidak cepat dalam mengurus izin slot time penerbangan haji kepada otoritas penerbangan sipil Arab Saudi (GACA).
Di dalam aturan GACA bahwa negara-negara yang mengirim jemaah di atas 30 ribu ada mekanisme khusus yang harus dilakukan selama satu bulan.
Kemenag dari sebelum bulan Desember 2023 sudah meminta maskapai yakni Garuda Indonesia agar mengajukan slot. Dan sampai pada detik akhir ketika sudah mulai menyusun jadwal penerbangan Garuda Indonesia masih ada slot yang belum mendapatkan izin. Alhasil Garuda harus mendarat di Madinah
Masih ada beberapa catatan tapi pada prinsipnya slot penerbangan menjadi kewenangan maskapai penerbangan bukan Kementerian Agama.
