Ricorda in particolare un uomo che, in vari contesti, parlava di lui in modo aggressivo e che un giorno gli scrisse una mail colma di insulti, definendolo presuntuoso, sopravvalutato e un pessimo scrittore. Carofiglio decise allora di fare un esperimento: rispose con tono cordiale e rispettoso, ringraziandolo per la franchezza e dicendogli di apprezzare quelle critiche più dell’adulazione che spesso riceveva, invitandolo persino a continuare.
