Aksi tersebut digelar sebagai respons atas kenaikan tunjangan anggota DPR yang dinilai tak pantas di tengah kondisi rakyat yang sedang sulit.
Peserta demo tak hanya berasal dari kalangan mahasiswa, namun juga pengemudi ojek (online) hingga pelajar.
Mereka menuntut pembubaran DPR karena lembaga tersebut dianggap menjadi beban bagi rakyat.
Namun, demo berakhir ricuh dengan polisi menembakkan gas air mata kepada peserta aksi.
Reuters adalah salah satu media asing yang memberitakan demo tersebut.
Artikel yang diterbitkan berjudul "Polisi Indonesia bentrok dengan pengunjuk rasa yang memprotes gaji anggota parlemen".
Media internasional itu menyoroti anggota DPR yang menerima gaji dan tunjangan dengan total lebih dari Rp 100 juta, termasuk tunjangan perumahan.
Gaji tersebut jauh di atas pendapatan rata-rata Indonesia yang hanya sebesar Rp 3,1 juta.
Kantor berita Lebanon, Al Mayadeen juga memberitakan demo tersebut dan mengutip pernyataan kritikus.
Mereka berpendapat bahwa tunjangan perumahan Rp 50 juta per bulan bagi anggota DPR tidak sebanding dengan kesulitan ekonomi yang dihadapi rakyat Indonesia.
Kemudian media asal Singapura, Channel News Asia (CNA) menyebut tunjangan rumah anggota DPR RI hampir 10 kali lipat dari upah minimum Jakarta.
Padahal, Prabowo menjanjikan langkah-langkah penghematan yang ketat dan pengeluaran pemerintah yang lebih efisien.
CNA lantas membandingkan gaji guru di Indonesia yang hanya berkisar antara Rp 1,2-7 juta per bulan.
