Batı Avrupa'yı etkisi altına alan sıcak hava dalgası, Fransa'nın tarihindeki en sıcak günü yaşamasına, İngiltere'de Haziran ayı sıcaklık rekorunun kırılmasına ve İspanya'nın 1950'den bu yana en yüksek günlük ortalama sıcaklığına ulaşmasına yol açtı.On milyonlarca kişi bunaltıcı sıcaklarla mücadele ediyor. Paris'te sıcaklık yaklaşık 41 dereceye ulaşırken, kıtanın geniş bir bölümünde kırmızı sıcak hava uyarıları yürürlükte.
Fransa'nın ülke genelindeki onlarca noktada gündüz ve gece sıcaklıklarının ortalamasını esas alan ulusal sıcaklık göstergesi, Çarşamba günü 30 dereceye ulaştı. Bu değer, kayıtların tutulmaya başlandığı 1947 yılından bu yana ölçülen en sıcak gün olarak kayda geçti.
Ülkenin yarısından fazlasında kırmızı sıcak hava alarmı sürerken, batıdaki on binlerce ev elektrik kesintisi yaşıyor.
