Anche il Ciao Team, la nazionale azzurra del taekwondo freestyle, ha festeggiato l'arrivo a Roma della torcia olimpica. Il team di atleti è stato protagonista venerdì di una spettacolare esibizione acrobatica presso il Centro di Preparazione Olimpica Giulio Onesti dell'Acqua Acetosa (dove si allenano i top atleti azzurri di questa disciplina), a Roma, alla presenza della presidente del Cio, Kirsty Coventry, che ha ricevuto il Premio Giulio Onesti. «La visita della presidente Kirsty Coventry rappresenta per noi un momento di grande rilievo – ha dichiarato il presidente della Federazione Italiana Taekwondo, Angelo Cito –. Potersi esibire davanti a lei è stato significativo per tutto il movimento. La sua disponibilità nel dialogo con gli atleti e le atlete del Ciao Team ha reso questa occasione particolarmente importante.
