(LaPresse) «Valter Lavitola si è assunto ogni responsabilità sulle modalità esecutive del delitto, ma ha chiarito che l’idea della bomba apparteneva a Gomez, al quale aveva affidato un mandato sostanzialmente in bianco». Lo hanno dichiarato gli avvocati Sergio e Arturo Cola, difensori dell’ex faccendiere, al termine dell’udienza davanti al Tribunale del Riesame, i cui giudici si sono riservati la decisione sulle richieste della difesa. Secondo i legali, nel corso dell’interrogatorio Lavitola avrebbe ricostruito il proprio ruolo spiegando di aver incaricato Gomez di occuparsi della vicenda senza indicare le modalità operative. «Gli aveva detto che avrebbe fatto a modo suo, forte della propria esperienza nel settore della sicurezza internazionale e militare. Non gli aveva parlato di un ordigno, ma Lavitola ha comunque deciso di assumersi la responsabilità delle conseguenze di quel mandato», ha spiegato l’avvocato Sergio Cola. Lavitola nel corso delle dichiarazioni spontanee davanti ai giudici del Riesame avrebbe ammesso anche che dall’amicizia con il conduttore di Report, Sigfrido Ranucci, derivava anche un vantaggio personale. «Un riscatto sociale del quale aveva bisogno in ragione dei trascorsi giudiziari. Questo era il vantaggio collaterale rispetto al fatto di tutelare l'incolumità di un amico», ha aggiunto Arturo Cola. «L'altro elemento importante è che il movente politico che la Procura ipotizza è un movente insussistente, atteso che il dottor Lavitola ancora oggi ha riferito più volte che il dottor Ranucci non ha mai inteso candidarsi in politica, entrare in politica».
