Kashmir is facing one of its most intense heatwaves in decades, with temperatures crossing 35°C and June becoming one of the hottest in over 20 years. The prolonged dry spell has lowered water levels, raised concerns for Dal Lake, and put crops and orchards at risk. Amid the extreme weather, schools across the Valley have been shut for two weeks. While the India Meteorological Department has forecast rain, it has also warned of flash floods, landslides and thunderstorms. A cloudburst in Bhalessa has already caused damage, highlighting how Kashmir is battling both record heat and dangerous weather extremes.
