Paralympic medalist Isaac Jean-Paul opened his TEDxBeverlyGrove 2026 talk with the doctor who diagnosed him legally blind at two, then told his parents not to hold him back because of what they thought he could not do. What followed was not an inspiration story. It was a case against what he calls the kindness ceiling, when help quietly lowers the standard. Drawing on the coaches who raised his ceiling and the athletes he later coached, Jean-Paul closes with the line that gives the talk its title: we don't handicap people, we handicap environments. Isaac Jean-Paul is a two-time Paralympic medalist (bronze, Tokyo 2020; silver, Paris 2024), world-record holder in high jump, and World Champion (2017 World Para Athletics Championships). He is an NCAA Division II national champion, All-American, and is currentlytraining to become the first Paralympian to win Olympic gold at the LA 2028 Olympic Games.
