Rudal ini diklaim mampu membawa hulu ledak nuklir dan menjangkau seluruh wilayah China.
Kementerian Pertahanan India menyebut uji coba berlangsung di negara bagian Odisha.
Menurut pemerintah, peluncuran tersebut telah memvalidasi seluruh parameter teknis dan operasional.
Agni-5 menjadi bagian dari program pertahanan India untuk memperkuat posisinya menghadapi dua rival utama, China dan Pakistan.
India dan China selama bertahun-tahun bersaing memperebutkan pengaruh di Asia Selatan.
Hubungan memburuk sejak bentrokan di perbatasan Himalaya pada 2020 yang menewaskan sejumlah prajurit.
Usai insiden itu, India membatasi investasi asal China dan melarang ratusan aplikasi buatan negara tersebut.
Sementara China menangguhkan penerbitan visa bagi warga India.
Namun, ketegangan mulai mencair.
India kembali membuka penerbitan visa turis untuk warga China sejak 24 Juli 2025.
Penerbangan langsung juga kembali beroperasi, dan sejumlah pertemuan tingkat tinggi telah digelar.
Juru bicara Kementerian Luar Negeri China, Guo Jiakun, menyambut positif langkah India.
Ia menyebut Beijing siap memperkuat komunikasi dan pertukaran antarwarga.
