El destructor Tipo 055, con un desplazamiento de más de 10.000 toneladas, se yergue en el mar proyectando una imagen de dominio absoluto en cualquier océano. Coronando su estructura, el radar AESA "Estrella Marina" funciona como una suerte de "conexión Wi-Fi de nivel cósmico" capaz de detectar hasta los objetivos más pequeños en un radio de varios cientos de kilómetros.Gracias al “súper radar” y a la tecnología de lanzamiento en frío o en caliente, cuando se abren sus 112 celdas de lanzamiento vertical, estas pueden albergar misiles antibuque YJ-21, misiles antiaéreos HQ-9B, e incluso equiparse con diversos armamentos como sistemas antimisiles o antisubmarinos, activando un modo de fuego continuo.
Gracias a su sistema de propulsión completamente eléctrico, el buque puede alcanzar altas velocidades en el mar, mientras que su diseño furtivo maximiza su capacidad de sigilo. La combinación de ambas características permite al 055 ejecutar maniobras de aproximación táctica de forma prácticamente indetectable, apareciendo en las zonas estratégicas sin ser percibido. China cuenta actualmente con ocho destructores Tipo 055 en servicio. Lo más destacable es que esta es apenas su versión 1.0, con un margen de desarrollo y mejora aún mayor.
