Ferrari’s first electric car, the Luce, has sold for a staggering $40 million at a charity auction, making it the most expensive new car ever sold at auction. The one-of-a-kind first production model was reportedly bought by billionaire inventor and philanthropist Dr Herbert Wertheim. The Luce normally starts at around $640,000 and features four electric motors, 1,035 horsepower, a 122-kWh battery and a claimed range of more than 530 kilometres. The car’s electric powertrain has divided Ferrari purists, but the record-breaking auction shows huge interest in the marque’s electric future. All proceeds will go to the Ferrari Foundation.---
