LINDSAY CLANCY MURDER TRIAL:One Juror Blocks Not Guilty Verdict As Jury Deliberations Enter 7th Day
The Lindsay Clancy murder trial has entered a critical stage as jurors continue deliberating for a seventh day without reaching a unanimous verdict over the deaths of her three young children.Clancy’s defense attorney Kevin Reddington told the court that a single juror was preventing the jury from finding her not guilty, arguing that the juror had acknowledged doubt but was refusing to apply that doubt to the verdict. Judge William Sullivan rejected the defense request to remove the juror and instructed all 12 jurors to continue deliberating.
The jury in Plymouth, Massachusetts, has repeatedly reported an impasse during deliberations. The case has centered heavily on the defense argument that Clancy was experiencing postpartum psychosis when she killed her three children in January 2023.
Clancy has admitted strangling her children, Cora, Dawson and Callan, with exercise bands before attempting to take her own life. Prosecutors and the defense presented extensive evidence during the six-week trial, which featured more than 80 witnesses and over 300 exhibits.
If the jury cannot reach a verdict and the judge declares a mistrial, prosecutors would have to decide whether to retry the case. A first-degree murder conviction could result in life imprisonment without parole, while a finding of not guilty by reason of lack of criminal responsibility could lead to commitment to a state psychiatric hospital for evaluation.
