South Africa: DA Quits Ramaphosa's National Dialogue Amid Coalition Tensions | Firstpost Africa|N18G

South Africa's fragile coalition government faces escalating tensions as the Democratic Alliance (DA) withdraws from President Cyril Ramaphosa's "National Dialogue" initiative, branding it a "waste of time and money." This abrupt move follows Ramaphosa's dismissal of DA Deputy Minister Andrew Whitfield over an unauthorised US trip. DA head Steenhuisen denounced the dismissal, claiming Whitfield's trip requests were ignored, and issued an ultimatum: remove corrupt ANC ministers within 48 hours or face "grave consequences". The Presidency has rejected the threats, stating Ramaphosa will not yield to ultimatums. Despite initial concerns of a coalition exit, the DA has confirmed it will remain in government and not table a no-confidence motion against Ramaphosa for now. The ongoing ideological clashes between the ANC and DA, the two largest coalition partners, highlight the significant challenges Ramaphosa faces in holding the coalition government together.
