Gempa itu menewaskan sedikitnya delapan orang dan menimbulkan tsunami mikro di pesisir pantai.
Institut Vulkanologi dan Seismologi Filipina (Phivolcs) mengungkap gempa terkuat dengan kekuatan M 7,4 melanda perairan lepas pantai Manay, Davao
Oriental pukul 9:43 waktu setempat.
Gempa susulan berkekuatan M 6,9 mengguncang wilayah yang sama hampir 10 jam kemudian.
Kedua gempa tersebut terjadi hanya 11 hari setelah gempa berkekuatan M 6,9 menewaskan 74 orang melukai 559 orang dan merusak hampir 80.000 rumah di provinsi Cebu.

Diketahui Filipina pernah diguncang gempa terbesar pada 16 Juli 1990 gempa bumi dahsyat melanda Pulau Luzon di Filipina, dengan kekuatan M 7,8.
Gempa yang berlangsung sekitar 45 detik ini berpusat di dekat Kota Rizal di Provinsi Nueva Ecija dan terasa di seluruh wilayah.
