Direktur Utama I.League, Ferry Paulus dalam paparanya menyebut bahwa kompetisi Championship yang diikuti 20 tim musim ini jadi era baru untuk kompetisi kasta kedua di Indonesia.
Ia ingin kompetisi Championship bisa naik kelas salah satunya dengan perubahan nama, format kompetisi hingga penerapan VAR.
Seperti diketahui, Championship 2025/2026 akan diikuti 20 klub yang dibagi menjadi dua wilayah, grup Barat dan Timur dengan menerapkan sistem kompetisi penuh.
Kemudian masing-masing juara grup akan dipertemukan untuk memperebutkan gelar juara.
Sedangkan masing-masing runner-up grup akan bertemu untuk memperebutkan satu tiket promo ke Super League.
Sementara itu, Komisaris I.League yang juga menjabat sebagai Wakil Ketua Umum PSSI, Zainudin Amali mengatakan bahwa PSSI juga ingin semua kompetisi bisa berkontribusi besar dalam menciptakan para pesepakbola untuk memperkuat Timnas Indonesia.
Peluncuran kompetisi Championship 2025/2026 akan diikuti dengan pertandingan pembuka antara PSMS Medan vs Persekat Tegal di Stadion Utama Sumatera Utara, Deli Serdang, Sumatera Utara, Jumat (12/9/2025) pukul 19.00 WIB.
