How a Hollywood Poster Artist Retouches with Generative Fill
Turn an ordinary client photo into a delivery-ready image with Generative Fill in Photoshop, and keep every fix on its own layer in case the client asks for changes. This series is created in partnership with Adobe. #AdobePartner
Before you touch a pixel, scan the photo like an art director. This one has three problems: unkempt hair, skin imperfections, and a loose, wrinkled shirt. You'll fix the hair, skin, and shirt with Google's Gemini model in Generative Fill, clean up what's left with the Remove tool and Firefly Fill & Expand, then flip the lighting so the talent matches the background he's going into.
The workflow I recommend: use partner models for the big changes and Firefly models for targeted cleanup. Partner models line up best with a perfect square selection. Firefly models read the whole image, so you can often leave the prompt blank.
This tutorial is part of Generative AI Essentials for Designers, a five-part series for designers, art directors, and photographers who want AI images that match the brief.
