Merujuk data Survei Biaya Hidup Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS) pada 2018, Direktur Jenderal Integrasi Transportasi dan Multimoda Kementerian Perhubungan (Kemenhub) Risal Wasal mengungkap biaya transportasi di Kota Bekasi sebagai yang tertinggi di Indonesia.
Biaya transportasi di Bekasi mencapai Rp 1.918.142 per bulan atau 14,02 persen dari total biaya hidup warga Bekasi.
Tingginya biaya ini bukan berasal dari tarif angkutan umum, tetapi dari biaya tambahan yang timbul saat menuju dan meninggalkan lokasi transportasi umum.
Itulah yang disebut dengan first mile dan last mile.
Sebagai contoh, meskipun tarif kereta murah, yakni sekitar Rp 3.500 – Rp 6.000, masyarakat tetap harus mengeluarkan biaya tambahan untuk mencapai stasiun dan untuk melanjutkan perjalanan dari stasiun ke tujuan akhir menggunakan ojek online.
Selan itu, apabila orang tersebut membawa kendaraan pribadi ke tempat transportasi umum yang akan ia gunakan, ada biaya parkir yang harus dikeluarkan
