Trump warns Iran: US will bomb infrastructure for every ship attack in Strait of Hormuz
President Donald Trump has warned that the US will attack Iranian infrastructure every time Tehran targets ships in the Strait of Hormuz.In a post on social media, Trump said that anytime Iran shoots at a ship in the Strait of Hormuz, "the United States will bomb and destroy one bridge or power plant, including those located next to or in the capital city of Tehran."
Earlier, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington remains open to a diplomatic settlement with Iran but warned it will continue military strikes as long as Iran remains "a threat to global shipping." Rubio accused Iran of violating the memorandum of understanding, saying Tehran was supposed to put out a statement supporting free navigation but instead targeted a ship.
Trump is also heading to Dover Air Force Base to witness the return of four American soldiers killed in the conflict.
While Trump claims Americans support the war despite economic concerns, polls show opposition to the war has risen to between 60 and 70 percent, though street protests have not materialized as they did during the Iraq War.
